Does the library have a tool that detects unoriginal content in papers and assignments?
Does the library have a tool that checks for plagiarism, unoriginal content, copied text, or similarity in papers and assignments?
Answer
While the library itself does not directly provide a plagiarism checker, all University of the Cumberlands students have access to SafeAssign through the Learning Commons course in iLearn.
SafeAssign is a tool that scans your paper and creates a similarity report. This report highlights passages in your work that match other sources, including academic publications, websites, and student papers. Many students refer to this as a “plagiarism checker,” “originality checker,” or “tool to detect unoriginal content.”
How to access SafeAssign:
-
In iLearn, scroll to the bottom of your course listings and open the Learning Commons course.
-
Under the APA Writing Support section, expand the drop-down menu.
-
Select SafeAssign Guide to learn how it works, or Upload Availability: Submit a SafeAssign Draft to upload your paper.
Important: Submitting a draft in the Learning Commons does not add your paper to the global SafeAssign database. This means you can review your draft and make revisions without it being stored or compared against future student submissions.
If you need help using SafeAssign or understanding your report, contact the Learning Commons at tlc@ucumberlands.edu or call 606.539.4312 (undergraduates) or 606.539.4216 (graduates) for assistance.
